Apocalypse 2012 - Deutsche Version

The Mayan Calendar

21 December 2012 - a world fall prophecy

According to the forecast of the Maya the end of the world is determined. The 21th December 2012 is the day, on which all life on earth will end. Will this annual mid winter day be seriously the crack of doom? From astronomical view de facto something unusual can be observed. A very rare planet constellation ensures for the fact, that the sun reaches the center of the Milky Way on this day. This happens only every 26.000 years and is released by the diagonal earth axis, which turns in one circle within this time cycle.

Even Hollywood took note of the prophecies of the Maya. The well-known German producer and specialist for world fall scenarios Roland Emmerich takes care of the topic. He produces the top-notch casted end time movie „2012“, which will start in the summer of 2009 in the cinemas. But what does that future vision of the Maya exactly mean to us? Can this date be arranged into to the row of all other apocalypse prophecies, after this day and will the 21th December 2012 fall into oblivion then? Or did the Maya know more than we suppose?

The Maya - A Pre-Colombian advanced culture

The Maya had a highly developed culture, which is absolutely comparable with the cultures of the Egyptians or the Greeks. The Mayan had outstanding astronomers and mathematicians. The scientists are still not able to decode their sophisticated writing and number system completely. Most of the Maya knowledge was destroyed in course of the history, because the incredible meaning of these cultural inheritances was not opened to humans at that time.

The Maya were located in southern Mexico at that time. Particularly the peninsula Yucatán seems to have been the trick and pivot of this people. In the zenith up to 20 million humans lived in the Mayan empire, in different enormous cities, which was very unusual in that time. The complete empire of the Maya, which was divided in several small States, stressed a size, which is comparable e. g. to the total area of Germany. Suddenly, app. 900 AD something must have happened, for the Maya arranged to give up their cities gradually.

The exact reason why they left their cities is still unknown and presents a puzzle for the researchers. They know, that the most of the Maya cities are still undetected and covered by trees and bushes. Over and over again the tropical rain forest releases new ruins, which perhaps can help the researchers to explain the sudden disappearance of the Maya culture. Apart from incomparable cultural places, which fascinate researchers and tourists equally, the Maya left their calendar to us. Basically it is about not only a single-, but three different calendar systems, which are used together.

The Maya Calendar - A view into the future

On the one hand the Maya used the „Haab “- calendar, which divided the solar year into 365 days. These 365 days of the yearly calendar system were further divided into 18 months, each whith 20 days. In order to fill the gap, resulted from this counting and to reach a 365 days year, further days without detailed specifications were added. This calendar can be compared with our current calendar. Further the Maya used a ritual calendar, which was called „Tzolkin “. This calendar system subdivided the year into 20 months with each 13 days. The first cycle „Tzolkin yearly “has only 260 days, without an addition which also completes this calendar to a 365 days cycle. The Tzolkin calendar was used probably, in order to record all ritual and religious occurrences and to get a view into the future. By the way this ritual Maya calendar is still used in fortune-telling rituals in Guatemala. „The Haab “- and „the Tzolkin “- calendar by the Maya were used at the same time.

Particularly interesting, regarding the prophecy of the 21. December 2012, is the third calendar system of the Maya, which is based on a final counting. Contrary to the two other calendars the time is not arranged here into days, weeks, months or years. On the basis of a point of origin, that the Maya researchers could retrace to the 1st of August in the year 3114 B. C., each following day is counting up continuously. The reason to start just on this August the first with their calendar recordings is still unknown and presently not reconstructable by the researchers. However, remarkable is that this calendar ends on 21 December 2012 without continuation. Could it be a clear reference to the forthcoming Apocalypse?

An unscientific view of the 21.Dezember 2012

The luminaries in the sky were equated to divinities by the Maya. The scholars of the Maya invested a lot of time, in order to observe these „Gods “in the sky. With different methods it succeeded to them in computing the sun turns accurately and to represent the planet careers. Particularly they observed the Venus and their accuracy was so amazing, that the present scientists are pretty fascinated of it. The midwinter means for the Maya the day of the rebirth of the divinity „One Hunahpu, The first father” and thus the beginning of a new world age. According to time calculation of the Maya, we are living in a cycle of the end time. Not only in the Mayan calendar, but also with the time calculations of other old cultures, an approx. 26.000 years continuous cycle plays a crucial role.

The precession cycle

Our solar system takes about 25.800 years to orbit the groups of stars of the pleiads. By then the tumbling earth axis has turned a complete circle in the circle and past this large cycle. This procedure is also designated as "The Platonic Year". The pleiads settled in the Milky Way - also known as „The Seven Sisters“ - , can be recognized with the naked eye. The Maya dated the end of this cycle on the 22th of December in 2012. Is this end of the cycle possibly interpreted wrong?

Or could it stand for a new start or the leap into another time? The Maya very probably assumed that the end of each time cycle offers a new beginning. Why should it be different? Does this belief of the Maya affect possibly also our present life? Actually the mid winter is celebrated world-wide by different religious groups and symbolizes a new start there. Further there are some visionaries, who have constituted a time barrier between the years 2011-2013, which would block their view. Fact is, that this day offers possibilities for all kinds of speculations.

Is it only the end of a cycle?

Is the Maya prognosis the truth? Does not only a cycle end on 21 December 2012, but so much more? Or is this prophecy comparable to the prophecies of Nostradamus or Jehovah's Witness and all others, who had already quite often predicted the end of the world? Whether life goes on beyond the 22th of December 2012 will show if the prophecy will com true or into oblivion.

Is the fall approaching for us actually?
